Mary Zayek

Director of Marketing

Mary Zayek is the Director of Marketing at GovSmart, Inc. She brings extensive marketing experience to her role, with a background in brand strategy, digital marketing, trade show and event management, and integrated marketing campaigns. Known for accelerating company growth by elevating marketing standards, strengthening brand positioning, and delivering measurable business results. Prior to joining GovSmart, Mary spent 17 years with an x-ray security company, where she held leadership roles as Director of Global Service and Director of Global Marketing. Mary holds a BA in History and English from the University of California, San Diego, and an MBA from Boston University.

Mary lives in California with her husband and high school sweetheart Mark, and their five children. She enjoys traveling, reading, dancing, sports, war documentaries, romantic comedies, fresh flowers, and discovering new cities, restaurants, and experiences. On the weekends, you’re likely to find her on the sidelines of a soccer tournament loudly cheering on her kids, exploring somewhere new, or relaxing at home with a family movie night.

Starting a new chapter with GovSmart, I’m excited to step into my role in Sales Operations Support, where I help keep things running smoothly behind the scenes and support the team in delivering results. I enjoy the fast-paced environment, staying organized, and solving problems while helping the team succeed.

Outside of work, life is just as busy and rewarding. I’m a proud parent to a son who keeps me on my toes with baseball and football—if there’s a field, there’s a good chance you’ll find me there cheering him on (and learning more sports stats than I ever expected).

At home, our dog Emma rounds out the crew, bringing a relaxed, easygoing vibe to everyday life. She’s basically the calm in the chaos—and probably the only one who truly has it all figured out.

Zane Broden

Sales Operations Support

Zane Broden is a former mathematics teacher at Albemarle High School in the Charlottesville area, where he continues to serve as the school’s tennis coach. A graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nuclear Engineering, he brings analytical thinking and a passion for problem-solving into the business world. Zane joined GovSmart’s Navy team in October 2025, where he is dedicated to applying teamwork, discipline, and innovation to every mission.

Sara Simoneau

Director of Human Resources

With over 15 years of experience in human resources across a variety of industries, Sara brings deep expertise in people management, organizational development, and workplace culture. Known for her service-minded approach, she is dedicated to fostering an environment where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Outside of work, Sara enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and dog. She finds joy in traveling, exploring new cuisines through cooking, and relaxing with a good book.

Letty Browning

Sales Operations Specialist

Letty Browning serves as GovSmart’s DoD Operations Support Specialist, focusing on the ITES-4H contract. She brings a wealth of hands-on experience in customer service, client relations, and operational support. She takes pride in being the steady, reliable link that keeps communication flowing and ensures smooth, dependable service throughout every stage of the order lifecycle.

With a proactive mindset and a collaborative spirit, she approaches every interaction with care and intention—whether coordinating with vendors, supporting partners, or ensuring customers feel valued and heard. Her commitment to excellence is rooted in building trust, nurturing relationships, and delivering meaningful results.

Outside of work, Letty cherishes time with her husband and their daughter, Izabella. Born and raised in Florida, she has a deep appreciation for the beach, the sunshine, and those breathtaking Florida sunsets that never get old!

Candace Browning

Contracts Manager

Candace Browning serves as GovSmart’s DoD Contracts Manager focusing on the ITES-4H contract. Candace brings over a decade of experience managing government contracts and has a passion for turning competitors into partners.

When she is not reviewing government solicitations, Candace is proactively engaged with her clients on implementing the best possible solutions for their current needs. Navigating the complex world of acquisitions, Candace is constantly finding creative ways to ensure the government gets exactly what they want on the right contract. Her relationships with manufacturers and industry partners are pivotal in her continued success.

In her personal life, Candace cherishes her time spent with her niece and heading to Disney World on a moment’s notice. Residing in Tampa, Florida, she enjoys the beach and boating on the weekend. Candace graduated with her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Cincinnati in what she feels was roughly 100 years ago. Fun fact: the only TV she watches is Cold Case Files on Hulu.

Tom Corel

Senior Manager – International Strategy & Policy

A globally minded public policy professional, Tom is intellectually curious and a passionate relationship builder. He enjoys tackling complex problems, making sense of the big picture, and working collaboratively to deliver clear, practical solutions.

Now based in Charlottesville, Tom grew up in Sydney, Australia, and most recently lived in London with his family. He competed in NCAA Division I track and field at the University of Virginia.

Faustina Lee

Tracking Assistant

A Charlottesville native, Faustina brings years of experience in customer service and clerical work. Faustina is a devoted mother of two wonderful young ladies and a grandmother of five, as well as a caregiver to her loving mother who enjoys family gatherings, nature walks, and taking time to embrace life’s simple joys.

Katrina Brooks

Sales Operation Support

Katrina Brooks joined the GovSmart team in August of 2025 as Sales Operation Support. With a background in Human Resources and Legal Patent, Katrina brings a detail-oriented approach and passion for learning new skills to the team. When she’s not working, Katrina enjoys making jewelry, crocheting, collecting crystals, and spending time with friends and family.

Adam Reel

Strategic Accounts Manager – NAVY

Adam Reel joins GovSmart after a run with multiple early and mid-stage start-up companies as an operations, procurement, and business development executive. He cut his teeth on the civilian side as a member of the Global Operations team at Apple after a 10-year career as a Naval Aviator. He brings a wealth of knowledge from these experiences that will allow GovSmart to continue to grow its partnership with the US Navy.

Outside the office, Adam is either spending time with his two daughters or playing and/or coaching sports. He is an avid athlete having played both ice hockey and lacrosse at the US Naval Academy. He stays active in both those sports today as a coach and player. Although, he says he’s been spending more time golfing lately because it’s a little easier on the body.

He currently resides in Lexington, KY with his two daughters.

Chad Thurman

Solutions Architect

Chad Thurman is a Solutions Architect at GovSmart, Inc., bringing over two decades of experience in military IT and tactical communications. A retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer (255A), Chad has deep expertise in networking, cybersecurity, and secure deployable infrastructure. At GovSmart, he bridges mission requirements with innovative technology solutions for DOD customers. Passionate about supporting the warfighter, Chad uses his operational insight to design practical, scalable solutions that meet the demands of modern missions.

William Jenkins

Inside Sales Support

Will recently joined the GovSmart team and brings his passion for teamwork and support to the role. A lifelong Virginia resident, he is new to the Charlottesville area and is excited to explore the community. Will enjoys spending his free time outdoors, fishing, and making the most of his time with his two dogs and two cats. A former college lacrosse player, Will values the skills and camaraderie he gained through the sport.

Christian Darden

Christian Darden comes to GovSmart from Red Hat with nearly seven years of experience strategically supporting Federal customers and Systems Integrators. He contributes his success to focusing on both customer and partner relationships, leading to an effective sales channel ensuring growth for everyone involved.

He graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and is a scratch golfer.

Sarah Lemley comes to GovSmart with over 10 years of hospitality and sales experience, including 4.5 years of inside sales. She understands the importance of developing and nurturing relationships with her team, clients and vendors. Sarah loves a good challenge and is passionate about finding successful solutions and outcomes.

Her competitive nature not only shines in her work, but also outside of the office. In her free time, she loves hosting and planning events for her friends and loved ones, cooking, and beating her boyfriend at tennis. She is also passionate about fashion, video editing, her cat Violet, and finding new snacks at Trader Joe’s. Her excellence and dedication both in and out of work make her a valuable member of the GovSmart team.

Shelby Pratt

Shelby Pratt is a dedicated professional with a diverse background and a strong commitment to customer service. A graduate from James Madison University with a B.A. in Media Arts and Design, specializing in Journalism.

With experience in both sales and government contracting, Shelby has a keen understanding of client needs across various industries. She excels at navigating complex environments and building lasting relationships, making her a trusted resource for clients.

At GovSmart, Shelby is driven by a passion for customer satisfaction. Her goal is to ensure that every client receives personalized solutions that meet their unique needs, while consistently exceeding expectations. Bryan Bradley

A recent addition to the GovSmart team, Bryan utilizes his experience working at the intersection of AV and IT to best advise clients on cutting edge innovations. Outside of work, Bryan is an avid outdoorsman and Brazilian jui-jitsu grappler.

Josh D’Antoni

Inside Sales Representative – FSIs

Josh D’Antoni, a Charlottesville, VA native, comes to GovSmart with over 15 years of customer service and retail experience. He has heavily focused on building relationships and successfully exceeding customer needs. Josh attended Radford University from 2010-2014, where he studied Business Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. He was also a member of the Men’s Lacrosse Club his entire tenure at RU and was President of the club from 2012-2014. Presently, Josh supports the System Integrator and Strategic Accounts sales team. Josh is excited to bring his outstanding customer service experience to the IT world.

Outside of the office, Josh enjoys spending time with his family, friends, two dogs, and cat. Josh loves staying active, whether at the gym, on the golf (disc and regular) course, or spending time enjoying this world’s natural beauty. Josh is an avid DC sports fan fully supporting the Redskins, Capitals, Wizards, and Nationals through thick and thin. Some of Josh’s other hobbies include gaming, enjoying a good TV series, and discovering new music artists.

Jose Barrena

Jose Barrena has been living in the Charlottesville, VA area for the past 12 years with over 9 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and a year in tax preparing services. Jose loves to help people and make new friends. He is a high school graduate of Western Albemarle, where he graduated in 2013.

In his free time, Jose trains in Brazilian Jui-jitsu, Mauy Thai, and spending time with friends and family.

Bobby Hannant was born and raised just south of Boston, MA and moved to Charlottesville, VA in 2015. He comes from a professional background of security contracting, specializing in armored transport and asset protection, customer service, and most recently powersports sales.

Outside of work, Bobby enjoys grappling, cycling, and pickleball.

Nicole Gibson

Accounting Specialist

Nicole Gibson, native of Buckingham, VA, has customer service experience of more than 20 years. With that experience, Nicole has been able to successfully transfer those skills to her position at GovSmart, Inc.

Outside of GovSmart, Nicole and her husband of 30 years enjoy spending time with loved ones. Nicole is a proud mother of 2 children, Jodi and RJ, and Mimi to two beautiful granddaughters, Violet and Ari.

Nicole enjoys crafting, which first started with her grandchildren, creating new things, and recreating with old. In addition to crafting, Nicole enjoys working UVA sporting events and local concerts at John Paul Jones Arena. She loves the fast-paced environment and loves being around other people.

Software Architect with a background in mathematics from the City University of New York, Hunter College, I’ve dedicated the past 11 years to mastering Dynamics 365 development. My passion for data and development fuels my drive to create innovative solutions and strategies.

Beyond my professional life, I enjoy the simple joys of raising my two dachshund pups and exploring new destinations through travel.

April van den Heever

Purchasing Assistant

April enthusiastically joined the GovSmart team in 2024. With her background on BizAv, she understands that strong organizational skills and a keen eye for detail are cornerstones for any successful business.

Before breaking into private aviation, she had the honor of transporting U.S. Armed Forces and DoD personnel for nearly eight years as a flight attendant. This opportunity allowed her to visit over sixty countries and fostered a lifelong passion for travel and respect for those who serve.

April attended both Blue Ridge Community College and Mary Baldwin University. Originally from Middlebrook, VA, she now resides with her partner in Zion Crossroads. On leisurely days, April can be found watching soccer with friends, listening to her brother play fiddle, and trying to win at boardgames.

Matthew Reese

Inside Sales Representative

Native to Charlottesville, Matt Reese joined the GovSmart team in June 2023. Matt is the team lead for the Department of Energy, NASA, and USDA accounts at GovSmart.

Matt studied Business administration at Shenandoah University, where he was also a member of the starting offensive line for the football team. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time outdoors, hanging out with friends and family, and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens through thick and thin.

Kerry Rock

Chief Technology Officer

Kerry Rock is a highly experienced professional with 18 years of experience in the field of Information Technology. Kerry is also a proud US Army veteran, who has served their country with honor and distinction. In their free time, Kerry is actively involved in community and non-profit activities through their organization, DoGoodCville. Kerry’s dedication to giving back to their community is a testament to their character and commitment to making the world a better place.

Nate Thompson

IT Service Technician

Nate has been in the IT repair field for 20+ years, working with a wide variety of manufactures and equipment. For the last 5 years, Nate has been with GovSmart specializing in the Additive Manufacturing field.

Nate has strong customer service skills and knowledge while enjoying a hands-on approach. In Nate’s down time he enjoys making custom wooden American flags, woodworking, jumping on the Motorcycle and taking a relaxing ride as well as fishing and being a Girl Scout Dad.

Shaun Kennedy

Account Executive

Shaun Kennedy has been in the business of finding smarter, more efficient, and cost-effective solutions since he joined the GovSmart team in 2011 and had twins soon after. As an account executive, he uses the dedication and perseverance he honed as a jiu-jitsu blackbelt to streamline procurement processes and deliver what your organization needs, at the right time, at the right price, with the right level of support.

Shaun is like a tapas bar at a happy hour: there’s something there that everyone will love and want – have a connection to the military? So does Shaun (his wife is an attorney in the Army). From Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisianna, Kansas, Virginia, Hawaii, Florida, Pennsylvania, Italy, Europe, or Korea? Shaun lived there. Like golf, frisbee, or gin rummy? Shaun will play with you. Need hair-braiding tips? Shaun is a pro after his daughter’s toddler years. Besides probably having something in common with Shaun, he’s also the guy you can trust to take care of what you need to keep your organization excelling with all your IT and tactical needs. Plus, he’s got the best dad jokes.

Matthew DePuydt

Chief Strategy Officer

Matt DePuydt joined the GovSmart team after a 25-year career in the U.S. Army. After retiring in June of 2023 as the CTO of the 75th Ranger Regiment, he immediately joined GovSmart. His position as DOD Chief Strategy Officer has him working with all of the Federal teams as a mentor, strategist, and liaison. His experience in Special Operations and military communications brings a wealth of knowledge and charisma to the team. Fun fact, he is an avid ice hockey player and enjoys duck hunting in his free time.

Matt resides in Wisconsin with his wife, Angie. They have one child, Christian, who is off to be a Naval Special Warfare diver this year.

Ricky Billones

Independent Lead Generation Manager

Meet Ricky Billones, one of the OG’s of GovSmart and master of all trades (well, at least the ones GovSmart needs him for). As the Lead Generation Manager, Ricky has a knack for turning leads into gold faster than you can say “government contract”. He has been with GovSmart since the beginning and worked with Brent prior to opening GovSmart. He’s one of the “Kitchen Crew” when GovSmart started working out of their kitchen. From kitchen crew to lead generation guru, Ricky’s journey with GovSmart has been nothing short of epic.

Outside of GovSmart Ricky is a loving husband to Melody and a father of two beautiful daughters, Meg and Mel. He’s an avid MMA fan and enjoys playing PC games.

Gwen Cargile

Gwen Cargile’s been a part of the GovSmart, Inc. sales team for nearly four years. Originally from Charlottesville, Gwen brings a grounded perspective to her work, rooted in community values and connection. Outside of the office, she finds joy in spending quality time with friends, exploring culinary delights, and immersing herself in the beauty of the outdoors. Adam Sannutti joined GovSmart as a Client Success Manager on the DOD team after a 30-year military career. Robbie Lilliard

Robbie Lillard is a seasoned Account Manager with 5 years of experience at GovSmart, where he initially began as an Inside Sales Support. Despite entering the corporate world with no prior experience, Robbie’s dedication and hard work propelled him to his current role. Prior to his career at GovSmart, Robbie had a unique background as a professional fighter and owned an MMA gym. Opting to shift his focus to professional growth, he chose to channel his energy into building a successful career. Robbie’s philosophy centers around hard work, honesty, and consistency, guiding his approach to achieving success in both his professional and personal pursuits.

Kelly Shifflett

Kelly Shifflett is one of the administrative wizards at GovSmart. For almost 2 years, Kelly has been the secret sauce behind the DOD team’s smooth operations. Before she became a paperwork ninja, Kelly spent a whopping 21 years as a radiology tech, dodging x-ray machines and trying not to glow in the dark. When she’s not ruling the office with her mighty keyboard, Kelly enjoys the peaceful life in Greene County, VA with her family. She’s a master multitasker, balancing work, family, and the occasional game of hide-and-seek with her husband (her kids are grown). With Kelly on your team, you know everything is going to be organized….and probably sprinkled with a little bit of humor (or sarcasm, depends on the day).

Ryan Payne

Ryan Payne is a Sales Representative with over 11 years of experience at GovSmart, specializing in providing exceptional support to clients in the government. Skilled at connecting customers with multiple solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner utilizing multiple OEM’s. When not at GovSmart, Ryan enjoys spending time outside with his Aussie, maybe one day he’ll start playing soccer again.

Emily Lincoln

Emily Lincoln, a dynamic professional with a passion for innovation and community building, proudly serves as Govsmart’s first employee, contributing to its growth and success from its inception. With a deep appreciation for nature, Emily finds solace in outdoor activities, whether it’s hosting pool parties, tending to her garden, or exploring the wilderness. Her green thumb extends to the kitchen, where she delights in cooking wholesome meals using freshly grown vegetables from her garden.

Mohammad Merwais

Mohammad Merwais is a versatile professional with a bachelor’s degree in English Language from Kabul University. His career spans various industries and roles, showcasing dedication and adaptability.

Currently serving as an Inside Sales Support at GovSmart, Mohammad works with our team to update our products on our various contracts to keep the latest technology offerings to our customers.

Previously, he worked as a Relief Transit Operator, ensuring safe transportation for customers, and as a Security Officer, conducting patrols and providing assistance in security matters.

Mohammad has also excelled in administrative and managerial roles, overseeing waste management, office security, and educational programs at previous companies.

With linguistic proficiency in Dari, Pushtu, English, and Hindi, Mohammad brings a unique and diverse skill set to our professional setting.

Colin Gay

Sales Manager – NAVY

Colin Gay brings a wealth of experience from his 25-year tenure at Woodberry Forest School, where he excelled as both a teacher and coach. Transitioning to GovSmart, Colin now supports the Navy and Marine Corps accounts with precision and dedication.

Colin’s passion for education and mentorship has defined his career, leaving a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike. At GovSmart, he applies his strategic mindset to ensure seamless service delivery and client satisfaction within his accounts.
Beyond his professional achievements, Colin is a proud father of two and a dedicated cyclist. He’s embarked on an inspiring journey to ride his bike for 10,000 consecutive days, covering a minimum of 30 miles outside each day—a testament to his resilience and adventurous spirit.

Samantha Geer

Account Manager – Special Access Programs/FSIs

Samantha graduated from Virginia Tech in 2014 and has been with GovSmart since 2018. She learned the ropes within the purchasing department, but over the last year she has transitioned into a new role within the sales department. Samantha navigates the intricate landscape of government sales with finesse and a tenacity that has become her trademark. Each successful deal is a testament to her dedication, transforming challenges into opportunities.

When she isn’t wheeling and dealing, she can be found spending time with her husband and two children. Samantha is a die-hard sports fan and was the GovSmart Fantasy Football Champion of the 2023 – 2024 season (humble brag). She is a passionate supporter of the Virginia Tech Hokies, Washington Commanders, and Cleveland Guardians. When she isn’t spending time with family or watching sports, she enjoys spending time canoeing down nearby rivers and visiting local wineries and breweries.

Juliene Iwatsubo

Inside Sales Representative

As an inside sales support specialist, Juliene brings a unique blend of expertise, including a background in Mathematics from the University of Virginia and five years of experience teaching high school Math. Transitioning into the sales industry, Juliene now plays a vital role in ensuring seamless communication and support for our valued clients within the government sector.

In addition to a passion for technology and customer service, Juliene enjoys spending time outdoors in the beautiful town of Charlottesville. Whether its paddle boarding on the serene waters or hiking through picturesque trails, Juliene finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the area. Yash Rao

Inside Sales Representative

Yash Rao has been an Inside Sales Support at GovSmart, Inc. since January 2023 and is now part of the civilian team. Initially laser-focused on growing the DOT account, his efforts resulted in exceeding the 7-million-dollar mark in revenue within his first year. Yash now leverages his 7 years of coding experience and extensive IT knowledge to support all civilian growth accounts at GovSmart. Beyond his professional achievements, he values spending time with loved ones and embraces new experiences and sights.

Anugya Karki

Tracking Assistant

Anugya Karki has been a tracking assistant with the GovSmart team since 2022. She is passionate about assisting others and finds fulfillment in helping people. Beyond the office, you’ll often find her exploring the great outdoors or embarking on exciting travel adventures.

Chad Frizzell

Client Success Manager – Army

Chad stands out as an accomplished expert in defense acquisition, executive IT solutions, and program management for the Department of Defense sector. His role at GovSmart, Inc. involves leading complex IT projects, skillfully managing them from inception to the delivery of robust solutions to Warfighters. His previous tenure at the Joint Special Operations Command was marked by strategic enhancements in procurement and fiscal management across the C5ISR Portfolio. In his capacity as an Assistant Product Manager for the US Army’s PEO C3T, Chad successfully expedited the agile development of an ACAT II Software Program of Record, delivering critical solutions ahead of time and under budget. With over 22 years in the military, his career is adorned with significant roles in acquisition, logistics, and training, contributing to increased operational efficiency and fortified international alliances.

Chad has a master’s in systems Engineering Management from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor’s in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is a Certified ScrumMaster and holds several Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) certifications. His work is characterized by a keen ability to enhance team performance and foster transformative relationships, propelling organizational growth.

On the personal side, Chad is a dedicated family man, the proud father of two daughters Wren and Piper, and happily married to Caitlin. The family is joyfully anticipating the arrival of their third child in May.

Kacey Williamson

Kacey Williamson brings a unique blend of hospitality experience and sales acumen to the IT industry. With over 10 years in hospitality management, Kacey understands the importance of personalized service and building strong client relationships. Tom O’Connell, born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1989, is a seasoned professional in the realm of civilian sales, currently serving as the Director of Civilian Sales at GovSmart, Inc., located in Charlottesville, Virginia. His journey from his New England roots to his leadership role in Virginia is a testament to his dedication and expertise in the field.

Raised in Massachusetts and New Hampshire until his relocation to Charlottesville in 2002, Tom’s early years were marked by a blend of diverse experiences and environments. He graduated from Monticello High School in 2007 before embarking on his academic pursuits at Longwood University, where he pursued dual majors in Business and English from 2007 to 2012.

Tom’s career trajectory at GovSmart, Inc. commenced in 2018 when he joined as Inside Sales Support, a role facilitated by the mentorship of Account Executive Zach Palmer. Swiftly recognizing Tom’s potential, he was promoted to Inside Sales Representative, with a primary focus on the Department of Agriculture, after the Federal Fiscal Year of 2018.

Through his unwavering commitment to mission-driven objectives, Tom cultivated and strengthened GovSmart’s relationship with the Department of Agriculture, enhancing the company’s capacity to support the agency’s needs. His professional journey intersected with a significant personal milestone when his son, Archer, was born on March 29, 2019.

As Tom’s responsibilities expanded, he took charge of managing and amplifying GovSmart’s business ventures with both the Department of Agriculture and NASA by the end of the federal fiscal year of 2019. In the following fiscal year, he assumed the responsibility of nurturing GovSmart’s ties with the Small Business Administration, crucially contributing to the expansion of the DCMS 2.0 to aid in initial Covid-19 relief efforts.

Tom’s proactive involvement in supporting the SBA’s initiatives, including the Shuttered Venues Operations and Grants, facilitated the distribution of millions of relief dollars to small venues in need. By the conclusion of FY20, his exemplary performance led to the establishment of the Health and Science division at GovSmart, with Tom appointed as its lead. His account coverage spanned across various agencies, including HHS, DOE, NASA, USDA, NSF, SBA, and other independent agencies.

In FY21, under Tom’s leadership, the Health and Science division witnessed growth across all accounts, with notable projects such as the Community Navigator program implementation at SBA and the teaming award for CDW’s ICPT ORNL 2 contract for DOE standing out as impactful endeavors.

The momentum continued into FY22, as Tom forged valuable relationships across additional civilian accounts, including Transportation, DHS, and DOI, among others. Recognizing his contributions and leadership qualities, GovSmart underwent an internal reorganization at the end of FY22, culminating in Tom’s promotion to Director of Civilian Sales.

In FY23, armed with a focus on Agile app development and workflows, coupled with a steadfast commitment to mission objectives, Tom spearheaded yet another period of growth for GovSmart. Notable among the accomplishments was GovSmart’s selection as one of four awardees on SBA’s Cloud BPA, with an expected ceiling of $580 million.

Rich specializes in providing exceptional support to his clients in the government, commercial, and private sectors. After attending Rana University in Kabul, Afghanistan to obtain his bachelor’s degree in business administration, Hameed Mohammadi began his career as a Linguist and Cultural Advisor for Titan, Inc. from 2006 to 2014 with the U.S. Army.

He later worked as Technology Support for Wise Global Technology and obtained Microsoft Certification. With a sudden career change, Hameed left the technology field to join the business field. His recent tenure was as an Accountant for a small company in Kabul from 2014 to 2019 before moving across the world to the United States.

Kim Martin

Kim Martin is an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist with experience in healthcare, higher education, and information technology fields. Kim started her career as a field sales representative, then moved into contract negotiations with health systems and state governments for higher education clients. Once receiving her MS in I/O Psychology from GCU, she began training field representatives like herself. After coming to GovSmart, Kim moved into learning and development, creating GovSmart onboarding and continuous employee training programs.

Outside of work, Kim has three sons and a daughter that create a happy and full home. She coaches youth basketball and Special Olympics in the Charlottesville community. When she is not volunteering, she enjoys playing basketball with coworkers and running with her two dogs.

Matt Whitten

With nearly two decades of customer service expertise and a background in IT and electronics, Matt excels in problem-solving while fostering a positive customer experience. Matt Keyser

General Counsel

In his 22 years at State Farm Insurance, Matt held a wide variety of roles. He represented the company and insureds in all stages of litigation as a member of the Corporate Law Department. He also shared his expertise in contract, legislative and regulatory interpretation. Matt managed litigation across the country in some of the most challenging jurisdictions, evaluating cases, hiring outside counsel, and responding to inquiries from regulators. Matt handled a myriad of issues on behalf of the CEO and members of the executive office.

At CFA Institute, Matt was responsible for updating and improving the application process for the 250,000 CFA charter candidates worldwide. He assembled a global team made up of Industry Leaders, Executives, and members of the Board of Governors to review current standards for membership and make recommendations for improvements. His experience with regulatory compliance and process improvement yielded unprecedented results in the performance of the teams he supervised.

In the summer of 2022, Matt joined the GovSmart family using his skills and experience to help build the legal department with an emphasis on our relationships with our suppliers. He has also had an immediate impact on making sure GovSmart is able to provide the best possible outcomes for our customers. Matt loves what he does and gets the most satisfaction out of serving those that serve their country and their community.

Tom Barrow

General Counsel

Tom Barrow is the General Counsel and Government Contracts Attorney for GovSmart, Inc. In that role, he oversees contract proposals, works with project management and sales staff on contract performance, and handles contract litigation including claims, protests, and other issues. As the General Counsel, he advises company leadership on employment law, real estate law, federal firearms regulations, and other issues as necessary.

Tom retired from the Army in 2019 after twenty years of active service, including tours at Forts Hood, Bragg, and Polk as well as Korea and Afghanistan. He served as a professor and vice-chair for the Contract and Fiscal Law Department of the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School and finished his career as a government contracts attorney for the Space and Missile Defense Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.

Tom is a graduate of the University of Alabama and the College of William and Mary School of Law. He currently lives in Charlottesville, VA with his wife and three children.

Brandon Lillard comes from 25 years of law enforcement experience. Brandon worked his way through the ranks with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office in patrol, SWAT, and the criminal investigations division. He later retired with the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office. Brandon spent 8 years sworn with the FBI and was assigned to the Washington Field Office as part of the violent crimes task force. Brandon served as lead detective while supervising other detectives on the most violent of crimes. He has travelled the country investigating numerous types of crimes, while networking with other state and federal agencies. Much of his career revolved around his time in SWAT; from being a sniper, to entry operator, and onto team leader. Brandon is a DCJS certified firearms instructor, armorer and has trained hundreds of law enforcement officers on the range in pistol, patrol rifle and precision rifle weapon systems. Brandon speaks the language of the SWAT operator and with his experience in the field, he understands the needs of your team.

Adam Deane

Adam Deane, a native of northern Virginia, currently serves as the Chief Experience Officer for GovSmart, Inc. After getting his start in the FED IT business working with notable industry leaders in the space, Adam came to GovSmart in the early start up phases.

Alongside a career at GovSmart, Adam achieved the rank of black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and currently owns a Jiu-Jitsu academy alongside two other GovSmart employees. Prior to starting his career, Adam worked as a magician and still is often found with a deck of cards, performing magic for customers, partners, or any strangers alike.

Jason was born in Queens, NY and then moved to Cooperstown, NY. Jason came to Virginia to attend Old Dominion University. While at ODU, he met his wife Kari and followed her to Madison, VA, where they currently reside with their two sons, Ryker and Crew. He is now a self-proclaimed country boy and a proud chicken farmer.

Glenn Willard

Chief Operating Officer

Glenn Willard is the Chief Operating Officer for GovSmart, Inc. He also serves as the Program Manager for their SEWP V, CIO-CS, and GSA 2GIT GWACs. As one of the original team members at GovSmart, he has grown with the company and has changed roles from Senior Account Manager, to Business Development Manager, and Vice President of Sales before stepping into his current position. In his free time, he enjoys live music and playing guitar and drums.

Daniel Smith

Chief Financial Officer

Daniel Smith, GovSmart Inc.’s Accounting Director, graduated from Virginia Tech in 2009 with a BS in Finance. He manages all aspects of accounting within GovSmart with the support of his brilliant team. When Daniel is not in the office, he loves to spend time with his family. He is also an avid outdoorsman and enjoys working out and staying active.

Brent Lillard

Co-Founder and CEO

Brent Lillard, CEO and co-founder of GovSmart, Inc., has led the company from its modest start with just two employees in a home kitchen to a formidable presence in the Federal IT and tactical products sector, boasting $388 million in sales in 2023 and a team of over 80 dedicated members. His leadership is characterized by a steadfast commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment and upholding the values of integrity, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Brent received recognition among the 2018 AFCEA 40 under 40 for his significant contributions to the industry.

Brent’s journey into the world of information technology began in his early teens. Born and raised in Madison, Virginia, he was already working as a technician at a local computer store by the age of 14 and had ascended to the role of Director of IT for a significant company in his hometown before venturing off to college. He attended George Mason University, where he graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrative Studies, focusing on IT, specifically Internet and Multimedia. The early exposure to the IT field, coupled with his entrepreneurial ventures in website design and computer repair, laid the groundwork for his later venture of supplying technology solutions to the government sector.

Parallel to his professional accomplishments, Brent has cultivated a deep-rooted passion for martial arts, particularly Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Starting his training at George Mason University in 2005, he earned a black belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu under Pedro Sauer in Brazil by January 2018. His commitment to the discipline led him to co-found and manage Gracie Charlottesville, which has been recognized as the “Best Martial Arts School” in Charlottesville for three consecutive years and serves over 400 students, reflecting his dedication to the sport and the community.

Brent lives in Keswick, VA with his wife Jessica and their two sons, Locklan and Decklan. Outside of his family and professional pursuits, he enjoys spending time snowboarding, driving performance cars, playing music, golf, and computer games.
